Punjabi University authorities has once again closed its teaching, non teaching departments for four days after students bloody clash. One of the groups is supporting 24X7 hostel entry for girls.
Last night students of two different groups clashed on this issue. To keep the situation under control and stop the law and order to deteriorate in the campus, university authorities closed the university.
Dean Academic Affairs ordered the closure of university through a notice. The dean said in a notice that “Due to some administrative reasons, the university is closed for Oct 11 and Oct 12 .Oct 13 is a Saturday and Oct 14 is Sunday, so the university will now open on Monday, October 15. The order further reads as any two Saturdays will be working in near future, to compensate the loss of studies of the students.
The university has already extended one hour for the girls to enter their hostels in the evening . But one student organisation is demanding the relaxation and wants girl’s hostels to remain open for 24X7.Other student’s organisations are not supporting this.
Earlier also the university remained closed in September for four days and the students launched a week long signature campaign and went on indefinite strike. The girl’s students were demanding that when authorities can give round the clock hostel entry permission to boys, then why they are denying the same to girls.
