Varun Sharma, senior superintendent of police, Patiala today in a press conference announced the cracking of Navjot Singh, a resident of Nabha, a sixth-semester student murder case that shook the state on February 27,2023.
Sharma said, four students namely Mohit Kamboj resident of village chak Punnawali Veroke district Fazilka, Mandeep Singh alias Jugnu resident of village Sahib Nagar,Theri, district Patiala, Sunjot Singh resident of village Thetar Kalan , police station Ghal Khurd district Ferozepur and Harvinder Singh resident of village Morwali district Faridkot accused in Navjot Singh’s murder has been arrested.
SSP Varun Sharma said “as per initial investigation the accused Mohit Kamboj had some argument over a minor issue and attacked Navjot Singh with a sharp small knife (Kirch). Navjot was stabbed to his thighs and lower abdomen, which proved fatal to him. Immediately after this he was taken to Punjabi University health centre from where he was shifted to Rajindra Hospital. But, due to blood loss Navjot succumbed to the injuries and died at the hospital.”
“Immediately after the incident, I along with my officers, SHOs reached on the spot and made teams to nab the culprits. Within 24 hours after the incident, we arrested the accused” said Sharma.
Police has booked the accused under section 302 (murder) , 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (Whoever is guilty of rioting, being armed with a deadly weapon or with anything which, used as a weapon of offence, is likely to cause death), 149 ( Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) IPC at police station Urban Estate, Patiala, vide FIR number 18 dated February 27,2023.

Gurinder Singh, who got injuries in this scuffle, is also sharing the house with Mohit Kamboj and others. They had an argument over the sharing, payment of electricity bill of the rented accommodation on February 26,2023.
Next day the accused along with his friends reached outside UCoE (Engineering college) ,Punjabi University. Their again they had arguments. In a fit of rage the accused Mohit stabbed Navjot .
