“A total 1304 candidates are in a fray for the Punjab Assembly Elections for 117 assembly constituencies scheduled to be held on February 20, 2022, including two transgenders and 93 are women, while, 1209 candidates are men” as per Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr S Karuna Raju
As per available information, among all the candidates, nine candidates are of 25-years-old age and six candidates are above the 80-years-old.
The oldest candidate is Parkash Singh Badal, who at the age of 94-years is contesting from constituency number 83 Lambi in Sri Muktsar Sahib.
Rajinder kaur Bhattal, 76 years old, is amongst oldest women candidate in poll fray, who is contesting from Lehra constituency.
The youngest candidates include Rampy Kaur,25, who is contesting as an independent candidate from Talwandi Sabo. She had done BMLT course and is in teaching profession.
Dr Sukhmandeep Singh is seems to be youngest amongst all candidates of 25 years category, is a MBBS and is contesting from Tarn Taran.
Another youngest of 25 years includes Paramjeet Singh, a social worker is contesting as independent candidate from Khanna, Munish Kumar, a plumber is contesting from Boha on SAD (Amritsar), Gurjinder Singh, a social worker is contesting from Gidderbaha on Marxist-Leninist Party of India (Red Flag).
Amongst transgenders, Jasdev Singh alias Jasleen, 27 years is contesting from Patiala (rural) on Insaniyant Lok Vikas party and Maniksha from SAS Nagar (Mohali) on Samaj Adhikar Kalyan party.
There is variety of candidates ranging from illiterate to daily wagers to plumbers to doctors, engineers, professors, advocates,, internationally acclaimed sportspersons who studied in foreign universities.
Pappu kumar, 52 who is an illiterate is contesting from Barnala, Harjot Singh Bains is BA, LLB (Hons) from Punjab University, Certificate in International Human Rights law from London School of Economics & Political Sciences (LSE), London is contesting Ananadpur Sahib on AAP ticket, Sukhbir Singh Badal a MBA from California State University LA,
