The University School of Law, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib marked an impressive beginning to the 2nd National Moot Court Competition-2026, reflecting academic excellence, professional commitment, and vibrant intellectual engagement.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by the esteemed Chief Guest, Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi, whose august presence lent great distinction to the occasion. In his inspiring address, the Justice drew upon his rich experience in the legal profession, encouraging aspiring lawyers to cultivate analytical acumen, ethical integrity, and a deep commitment to justice. He underscored the pivotal role of moot court competitions in acquainting students with the nuances of litigation, judicial reasoning, and persuasive advocacy.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, in his address, exhorted the participants to uphold the highest standards of legal excellence and professionalism, while embracing the spirit of healthy competition and intellectual rigor.

Adding further dignity to the occasion were Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. (Dr.) Tejbir Singh, Registrar, whose presence reaffirmed the University’s unwavering commitment to academic and institutional excellence.

Prof. (Dr.) Amita Kaushal, Head and Dean of the University School of Law, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and participants. She eloquently highlighted the indispensable role of legal education in shaping competent and socially responsible legal professionals, emphasising that moot court exercises serve as a vital interface between theoretical learning and practical application.

The programme commenced with the rendition of the University Anthem, setting a solemn and inspiring tone for the proceedings. The competition has drawn enthusiastic participation from premier law institutions across the country, showcasing a spirit of national academic collaboration.

The opening day featured registration, informal academic interactions, and a rigorous researcher test designed to assess the analytical and research capabilities of the participants. The preliminary rounds, conducted in a simulated courtroom setting, provided an enriching platform for participants to demonstrate their legal reasoning, articulation, and advocacy skills before panels of seasoned advocates from District Courts and High Courts.

The day concluded on a note of anticipation with the declaration of results for teams advancing to the quarter-final rounds.

The event was meticulously coordinated by the Convener, Dr. Navneet Kaur. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Sikander Singh, Dean Students Welfare, Mr. Jagjit Singh, Deputy Registrar; Advocate Anirudh Kaushal; Advocate Harvinder Singh Maan; and Advocate Kirandeep Kaur Ballagan.

The successful inauguration of the competition stands as a testament to the University’s steadfast commitment to nurturing legal scholarship, advocacy excellence, and professional competence among the next generation of legal practitioners.
