Disrespecting and using Guru Granth Sahib as shield seems to have proved costly to fugitive Amritpal Singh.

On February 23, the so called ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief and self-styled Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh stormed the Ajnala Police Station in Amritsar district to press for the demand of release of his aide arrested in a case of kidnapping and attempt to murder.

Amritpal and his supporters, some of them brandishing swords and guns, break through barricades and barge into Ajnala police station and clashed with policemen.

On February 23, Amritpal and his supporters carry the holy Guru Granth Sahib in a special vehicle and reached the Ajnala police station, resembling a religious jatha (congregation). They breached the police cordon to surround the police station. Flanked by supporters carrying swords, guns, Amritpal was seen pushing the special vehicle carrying the Guru Granth Sahib as the crowd surged ahead.

Punjab police had restrained themselves during the clash as the self-styled Sikh preacher had brought the Guru Granth Sahib to the police station. As Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is supreme for Punjab police due to which they gave due respect to the vehicle carrying it and allowed its free movement and didn’t react to Amritpal’s attack on Ajnala police station.

60 days after using holy Guru Granth sahib as shield, Amritpal is behind the bars as police has arrested him today from Moga’s Rhode village in Punjab. He was arrested from Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sant Khalsa of Rode village in Moga, the native village of slain militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

Amritpal has been on the run since March 18, the day Punjab Police launched a massive manhunt for him. The crackdown came almost over three weeks after Amritpal’s supporters stormed Ajnala police station in Amritsar on February 23, demanding the release of one of his aides, Lovepreet Toofan.

Punjab police has already booked Amritpal under national security act (NSA) and has shifted him to Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail.
