605 students awarded degrees during IIT Ropar convocation

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar celebrated its Twelfth Annual Convocation on Tuesday, 9th April 2024, at its campus. Dr. Pawan Kumar Goenka, Chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) and Department of Science and Technology’s SCALE graced the occasion as a Chief Guest and delivered the convocation address. He emphasizes India’s growing opportunities and the nation’s aspiration to become a developed country by 2047. Adil Zainulbhai, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Ropar presided over the ceremony with the Director, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja.
A total of 615 Degrees were awarded, which include 115 PhD, 116 M. Tech., 67 M.Sc., 305 B.Tech, and 12 B.Tech-M.Tech dual degrees. Dr. Bhawna Rana and Dr. Leena Arora received the best PhD Thesis Award in the Science and Engineering disciplines, respectively. Uday Gupta of Computer Science and Engineering receives the President Gold Medal among the graduating B.Tech. students. The Director Gold Medal was bagged by the Diksha Mittal of Mathematics and Computing.
Institute Silver Medal for obtaining the highest CGPA amongst students of MTech in Artificial Intelligence is awarded to XIMI HOQUE, for Biomedical Engineering to Kirti Singh, for Chemical Engineering to Ankit Singh Jadeja, for Civil Engineering to Sukhsehaj Kaur, for Computer Science and Engineering to Sajja Vinay Kumar, for Electrical Engineering to Surabhi, for Mechanical Engineering to Manpreet Singh, and for BTech- MTechDual Degree in Mechanical Engineering to Vikram Setty. The Institute Silver Medal for obtaining the highest CGPA amongst students of MSc in Chemistry is awarded to Sonia, amongst students of MSc Mathematics to AravindMohandas, and for Physics to Muskan Jain.
The Institute Silver Medal for obtaining the highest CGPA amongst students of the BTech in Civil Engineering is awarded to Vasundhara Pant, for Chemical Engineering to Mohamed Mazhar Laljee, for Electrical Engineering to Yash Mittal, for Mathematics and Computing to HardikKapoor, for Mechanical Engineering to Arsh Malik, and for Metallurgical and Materials Engineering to Harjot Kaur.
Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar presented the Annual Report and congratulated the students, faculty, and staff for their contributions. IIT Ropar Ranked 22nd in Engineering, 33rd in Overall, and 46th in Research by NIRF 2023. IIT Ropar ranked 501-600 (World) and 131 (Asia) by “THE” Global ranking. IIT Ropar ranked 351-400 (Asia) and 78 (Southern Asia) by “QS” Global ranking. Over 930 Research Articles were Published in High-Ranking International Journals in 2023. Placement Cell witnessed 134 Companies on Campus, with 90% of UG Students Placed at an Average Package of INR 20 Lakhs. The external funding reached INR 350 Crores, and 500+ R&D Projects are underway.
