70th Women Senior National Kabaddi Championship kicks off at Lamrin Tech Skills University Punjab

The 70th Senior National Women Kabaddi Championship was declared open today by Cabinet Minister for Sports and Youth Services, Government of Punjab; Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer in the Campus of Lamrin Tech Skills University, Ropar, Punjab. This Championship will continue upto 13th December and is poised to make a history as it is being organised in Punjab for the first time.
Speaking on the occasion; Cabinet Minister stressed upon the need to focus on National Style Kabaddi as it has international acceptability. He stressed that Punjab must promote National Style Kabaddi to enhance our participation share in the country. The government is ready to provide finances for this purpose. Minister appreciated the role of University in implementing employment & entrepreneurship based Long term and Short Term Skill Programs. He added that this event is not merely a competition; it is a celebration of the spirit and prowess of women in sports.
During his address, Chancellor of the university; Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura mentioned that 27 teams from various States of India in addition to the team for Indian Railways ; comprising 400 players, coaches and Managers are participating in the championship which is being organised by Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI). He apprised that it is the second anniversary of the foundation day of Lamrin Tech skills University. In a span of two years, university has exhibited vibrancy in almost all the fields with the current student intake of 5331. Dr Kaura stated that university is focussing on the all-round development of students and hosting 70th National Women Kabaddi Championship is one such initiative that comes from proactive approach of the University. He further added that university is implementing all programs in association with its anchor partner IBM India Pvt Ltd and other industry partners Tata Technologies and Ansys.
Sikandar Singh Maluka; President Punjab Kabaddi Association in his remarks congratulated the University Management for hosting a wonderful event for the upliftment of sports, specially to promote the sports spirit amongst girls. He further stated that It is a matter of great pride and honour for Punjab that Kabaddi has become popular worldwide and is boosting the morale of all Punjabis, especially Kabaddi Lovers and players all over the globe.

The opening event was also attended by Dinesh Chadha,MLA Ropar, Santosh kataria, MLA Balachaur, Arun Raghav Vice President M&M (Swaraj Division), Tajinder Singh Middukhera, Vice President, KFI, Punjab, Mahesh Kumar(Dumpy Pehalwan) President BKU along with other prominent personalities from Government, industry, academia and other organizations.
