The Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, in collaboration with the Departments of Physiology, Neurology, and Pediatric Neurology at AIIMS Bathinda, successfully conducted a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program and workshop titled “Unlocking the Electrophysiological Diagnosis of Brachial Plexus Trauma.” The event brought together leading experts and clinicians from across the country to explore advancements in the diagnosis and management of brachial plexus injuries (BPI).

Prof. Meenu Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Bathinda, lauded the academic excellence and multidisciplinary nature of the workshop. She emphasized that such initiatives are vital in enhancing clinical acumen, strengthening institutional research, and ultimately improving patient care.

Prof. Akhilesh Pathak, Dean Academics, praised the scientific depth of the sessions and urged continued engagement in research and hands-on clinical training.

Prof. Rajiv Kumar, Medical Superintendent, appreciated the workshop’s practical orientation, highlighting the critical importance of electrophysiological techniques in improving diagnostic precision and surgical outcomes in BPI cases.

Dr. Sonia Kocher, HOD, Physiology, and Organizing Chairperson, set the stage with an insightful presentation on the clinical and epidemiological aspects of brachial plexus injuries—underscoring their impact on patients’ lives and the healthcare system.

Dr. Altaf Mir presented detailed data on 81 operated BPI cases at AIIMS Bathinda over the past year. His findings indicated road traffic accidents as the leading cause, primarily affecting the 21–40 age group—a working demographic, thereby reflecting the socio-economic burden of such injuries.

Dr. Mritunjai Kumar, HOD Neurology at AIIMS Rishikesh, elaborated on the electrophysiological management of pain and sensory dysfunction in BPI patients.

Dr. Vikas Lakhanpal, Head of Neurology, AIIMS Bathinda, shared real-world insights on electrodiagnosis across pre-, intra-, and post-operative stages.

Dr. Ankit Meena, Pediatric Neurologist, emphasized early detection and timely intervention in birth brachial plexopathy for improved outcomes in infants.

The workshop concluded with hands-on, interactive case discussions covering adult pan-brachial injuries, neuronal recovery, and pediatric cases, led by a multidisciplinary team of faculty members. These sessions provided a practical learning experience, equipping participants with evidence-based strategies for diagnosis and treatment.
