IIT Ropar organized interactive session for voters with CEO Punjab

Aiming awareness on electoral participation and ethical voting among the young voters of the State, Dr. S. Karuna Raju , Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab visited IIT Ropar to conduct an interactive session in the institute with the first time voters and old voters. In a two hour long session with the presentation, he informed that students can play a very effective role to strengthen the electoral processes. He discussed on Voter Registration, Electoral Participation, Ethical Voting and establishment of Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELC) in various institutes.
He said that the Election Commission of India works on the premise of “No Voter to be left behind” and is committed to the inclusion of all categories of voters in the electoral process. More than 150 students, faculty and staff attended the session.
Divulging more, he added that the Commission is committed to “building an equal access framework for Persons with Disability (PwDs)” so attempts are made to enhance elector confidence among them to improve their electoral participation. During the interactive sessions, the demonstration on the functioning of EVMs and VVPAT to the young voters was also be held.
The Deputy Commissioner Ropar, Dr. Sumeet Jarangal also visited IIT Ropar and ensured the fair election process in the city.
Among officials, Prof. Deepak Kashyap, Officiating Director, IIT Ropar, Prof. J.S.Sahambi, Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, Dr. C.C Reddy, Associate Dean Student Affairs, B. Nagaraja, Registrar, IIT Ropar, Ravinder Kumar, Joint Registrar, IIT Ropar attended the whole session.
