Sharing details, Deputy Commissioner, Patiala Dr. Preeti Yadav informed that these meetings, to be held at the village level, aim to garner community support for the anti-drug campaign. She stated that in line with the Punjab Government’s directives, the district administration is actively driving the campaign to the grassroots level, with Patiala district poised to play a leading role in making Punjab a drug-free state.
Dr. Preeti Yadav explained that the Village Defence Committees, constituted under the banner ‘Pind de Pehredar,’ comprise the village Sarpanch, Anganwadi Workers, ASHA Workers, Panchayat Secretaries, and Zaildars. She added that Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) are responsible for forming these committees in their respective areas and will also oversee the meetings scheduled for May 4.
She emphasized that the primary objective of these meetings is to engage the general public in the intensified anti-drug movement, raise awareness, and mobilize communities at the grassroots level for heightened vigilance.
