Workshop on “Recent Trends in Advanced Manufacturing Technique & Startup Opportunities for Students” held at IIT Ropar

IIT Ropar Technology and Innovation Foundation AWaDH, under NM-ICPS, Department of Science and Technology, in collaboration with Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Engineering & Technology (GBPIET), Pauri, Uttarakhand, hosted a two-day workshop on “Recent Trends in Advanced Manufacturing Technique & Startup Opportunities for Students” under the SAMRIDHI Ideathon initiative of IIT Ropar.

The workshop empowered faculty and student startups, reinforcing IIT Ropar’s commitment to innovation in agriculture, AI, and CPS. GBPIET was selected under the Ideathon initiative to receive a grant for CPS training. Dr. Amit Kumar (PI) and student Rohit Kandwal also secured an additional Rs 2.5 lakh grant for water treatment technology development.

The inaugural session featured Dr. Dhananjay Singh (Director, GBPIET), Prof. K.K.S. Mer (HOD), Prof. Sanjeev Naithani (Dean R&D), Dr. Mukesh Kestwal (CIO, IIT Ropar TIF), Dr. Amit Kumar (PI), and Co-PIs Dr. Ashutosh Gupta and Dr. Himanshu Prasad Raturi.

Dr. Dhananjay Singh (Director, GBPIET) emphasized workshops’ role in boosting student-industry connects and congratulated the team. Dr. Mukesh Kestwal delivered keynotes on IIT Ropar’s initiatives of iHub – AWaDH and Annam.ai, the AI CoE in Agriculture. He discussed CPS integration, Funding Opportunities, TRLs, and smart manufacturing. Dr. Pawan Rakesh (NIT Uttarakhand) led a technical session on Additive Manufacturing, followed by a Startup Showcase by student entrepreneurs.

Day two featured sessions by Dr. I.D. Singh (IIT Roorkee) on Unconventional Machining and Prof. Ritunesh Kumar (IIT Indore) on Surface Modification and session by Dr. R.S. Mulik (IIT Roorkee) on opportunities for the manufacturing startup ecosystem.

The event concluded with certificate distribution. Dr. Mukesh Kestwal highlighted that this workshop, part of 14 workshops under DST NM-ICPS, supports “Viksit Bharat 2047” and strengthens grassroots innovation via AWaDH CPS Labs, Training, SPRINT, and SAMRIDHI initiatives.
