Punjab govt to distribute Gym Equipment worth crores to youth

Punjab government is going to channelize the energy of youths in sports activities, for this the state government has made an elaborate plan and is going to distribute the Gym equipment worth crores to youth, clubs, village panchayats.
Last month in July 2025, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann had announced that modern sports grounds will be developed in villages across the state to divert youth away from drugs and channelise their energy in a positive direction.”We have decided to develop these grounds. The work on 3,083 grounds is going to start and a total of 4,000 grounds will be developed in the first phase,” he had said during a press conference.
There are nearly 13,000 villages in Punjab, and quality sports grounds will be built in every village, he had said. Mann had said when children take part in sports, they stay away from bad habits and their energy is channelised positively.
Taking a step further, Punjab government is going to distribute Gym equipments to villages to encourage youth participation in sports and deter drug use.
As per available information, the state government has decide to give high quality of Olympic standard equipment including floor mats, rack sets, kettlebell sets, dumbbell sets, barbell & weights and benches sets .
Punjab sports department deputy director said “ we will give these gym equipment in phased manner to panchayats who have developed the infrastructure. “
The department has finalized the specifications of Gym equipment materials to be given to village panchayats . As per sports department officials, the controller of stores department will purchase the Gym equipment.
The details of Gym equipments which Punjab government is going to purchase are :
Benches Set: (1500 quantity)-Flat bench, Incline bench, Adjustable Decline Bench-One set each with 2 PC each
Gym Floor Mat: (1500 quantity) Material – Rubber ,Size – 8 x 5 feet (50 x 50 cm – 16 pcs) / Interlock Mats Thickness – 20mm.
Kettlebell: (1500 quantity) -One set 5kg, 10 kg, 14 kg-one set each with 2 PC each.
Racks (1500 quantity): Squat Rack, Dumbbell Rack (Weight Rack Storage), Plate Rack of one set each with 2 PC .
Dumbbel (1500 quantity): 5Kg, 7.5 Kg, 10 Kg, 15 Kg, 20 Kg one set each with 2 PC .
Barbell & Weights Set:(1500 quantity)-Olympic Weight Lifting Rod, Squat Rod, Zig Zag bar, Weight Plate 25 kg, 20 kg,15 kg, 10 Kg, 5 kg, 2.5 Kg, 1 Kg one set each with 2 PC/ 2 pair each
