Short-Term Course on Research Methodology and Ethics Concludes at UGC-MMTTC, Punjabi University, Patiala

The UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) successfully concluded a 6-day online Short-Term Course on Research Methodology and Ethics, held from August 19 to August 26, 2025.

The course was meticulously designed to equip faculty members with the necessary skills to conduct quality research in a systematic and ethical manner. Total 91faculty members were joined this course. It focused on imparting knowledge of research design, tools and techniques, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and promoting awareness on ethical issues such as plagiarism, authorship, academic honesty, and research integrity.

Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini, Director MMTTC Punjabi University Patiala welcomed the chief guest of the day Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala and Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Minni Singh, Professor, Department of Biotechnology & Food Technology and AssociateDean Research, Punjabi University, Patiala. He thanked Course Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Balraj Singh Saini, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean College Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala and Dr. Abhinav Bhandari and all the participants.

Dr. Maini reiterated that research is a responsibility, not just a pursuit of knowledge. “In an era where information is abundant but discernment is rare, methodology provides structure and clarity, while ethics ensures the soul of scholarship,” he remarked. He further added that MMTTC is committed to creating a community that blends quality teaching with quality research.

In his valedictory address, Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor and Chief Guest of the occasion, in his massage highlighted that “true research is not only about innovation but also about responsibility, honesty, and accountability.” He emphasized that methodology and ethics form the backbone of quality research and are indispensable for building a credible academic culture. He appreciated the efforts of MMTTC in organising such a meaningful programme that aligns with the university’s vision of academic excellence and ethical scholarship.

Prof. (Dr.) Minni Singh, Professor, Department of Biotechnology & Food Technology and AssociateDean Research, Punjabi University, Patiala, graced the session as the Guest of Honour. In her insightful remarks, Dr. Singh stated that research methodology provides the systematic foundation for scholarly work, while ethics ensures its credibility and societal relevance. She stressed the importance of nurturing responsible research practices to strengthen institutional integrity and public trust in academia.

Prof. (Dr.) Balraj Singh Saini, Course Coordinator, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean, College Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala urged participants to embrace interdisciplinary perspectives, innovation, and societal relevance in their research. He called upon young faculty members to uphold originality and authenticity to elevate Indian academia on the global stage.

Dr. Abhinav Bhandari, Co-Coordinator of the course and Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, Punjabi University, Patiala introduced the participants to the objectives and themes of the programme. He informed that sessions were conducted on key areas such as Research Design, Data Analysis, Plagiarism Checks, Publication Ethics, and Emerging Digital Resources. He encouraged participants to actively engage in all sessions and apply the knowledge gained to their academic pursuits.

In his closing remarks, Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the resource persons, participants, and organising team members for their dedication and commitment. He extended special thanks to the supporting staff members — Dr. Mandeep Singh (Technical Officer), Dyal Dutt, Surinder Singh, Kanta Rani, Mahaveer Singh and Surinder Kumar — for their exemplary organisational efforts that contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the online programme.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from scholars and faculty across diverse disciplines from all over India, and was widely appreciated for its academic depth, relevance, and interactive delivery.
