Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria visits Rupnagar Headworks

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria today visited Rupnagar Headworks and reviewed the water situation on the spot.

He held a meeting with Rupnagar MLA Advocate Dinesh Chadha and top officials of the district at Canal Rest House, in which he directed the officials to provide timely and effective assistance to the flood victims. He particularly emphasized that steps should be taken in a planned manner for the rehabilitation of the affected families and that they should be provided with essential items like food, water, medicines and shelter immediately.

Talking to reporters, Governor Kataria said that in this hour of crisis, the Punjab Government and the Central Government are standing with the affected people with full force. He said that while the entire team of the Punjab government is engaged in rescue and relief operations day and night, the Union Agriculture Minister and the central team are also visiting the flood-affected areas.

He said that the loss of life was averted to a large extent with the joint efforts of the local administration, police and people. The people here have also extended full cooperation to the government, for which they deserve appreciation.

 

He clarified that concrete steps will be taken to further strengthen the drainage system in the flood-affected areas. As the representative of the Center, he will take the compensation proposals sent by the district administration to the Government of India and ensure their approval. He said that the final figure will come out only after the government’s assessment.

The Governor said that this flood has created a serious situation across the state. Relief material is being delivered to the camps in the affected areas. The teams of the MLA and the district administration are engaged in relief and rescue operations day and night.

The Governor also said that along with the crop damage, instructions have been given to send proposals for providing benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to the flood-affected households.

After this, the Governor Gulab Chand Kataria also paid obeisance at Gurudwara Sri Qatalgarh Sahib, Sri Chamkaur Sahib and prayed for the well-being of all.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia, DIG Rupnagar Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar, Senior Superintendent of Police Gulneet Singh Khurana, IAS Under Training Abhimanyu Malik, SP Chand Singh, SP Gurdeep Singh Gosal and other administrative and police officers were present.
