According to sources and a report by News18 , the Indian government has granted approval for a Sikh jatha (pilgrim group) to travel to Pakistan for Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Purab in November 2025. This decision reverses an earlier denial of permission that had been widely criticized. The Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev ji will be observed on November 5,2025.

Earlier, the Government of India denied approval to to send a Sikh jatha (group of pilgrims) to Pakistan, citing security concerns.

In response, The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami appealed to the Central government to reconsider the decision, pointing out that the Sikh pilgrimage to Pakistan has been a long-standing tradition, with Sikh jathas visiting Pakistan for Guru Nanak Dev ji’s birth anniversary for decades.

“Since Partition, Indian Sikhs have been allowed to visit their religious shrines in Pakistan without interruption. This is the first time such a situation has occurred,” Dhami stated.
