Advocate throws shoe at Chief Justice of India during Court Proceedings; Later Released

A 71-year-old advocate attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B. R. Gavai on Monday morning during the court proceedings.

According to Delhi Police, the lawyer, identified as Rakesh Kishore, removed his sports shoes and flung them toward CJI Gavai at around 11:35 a.m. in Court No. 1. Kishore is a registered member of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

The incident did not disrupt the hearing, as CJI Gavai remained composed and asked lawyers to continue with the proceedings.

While being taken out of the courtroom, Kishore reportedly shouted, “Sanatan dharma ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan” (India will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan Dharma).

Chief Justice B.R. Gavai has Z plus security cover, provided by the Security Division of the Delhi Police.

Kishore was questioned for nearly three hours before being released, after the Supreme Court’s registrar general declined to press charges against him. Police also recovered a handwritten note from him that read: “Mera sandesh har Sanatani ke liye hai… Sanatan dharma ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan.”
