Acting on the strict directions of Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh and Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Punjab, Dr. Dilraj Singh, the Food Safety Wing, District Patiala, has launched a massive crackdown on food adulteration in view of the ongoing festive season. The special enforcement drive is being led by District Health Officer and Designated Officer (Food Safety), Patiala, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur.

Divulging the details, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur said that as part of this intensified campaign, extensive inspections and sampling operations are being conducted across the district to ensure that only safe and quality food products reach consumers. In a major early morning operation on Tuesday, the Food Safety Team conducted a surprise inspection at a dairy unit in village Chutehra, Tehsil Samana, around 5:00 AM. The inspection team included Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Designated Officer (Food Safety) Patiala, along with Food Safety Officers Jaswinder Singh and Gaurav Kumar. During the inspection, three food samples-Paneer, Dahi, and Skimmed Milk Powder-were collected for laboratory analysis under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Additionally, approximately 225 kilograms of suspected adulterated Paneer was seized from the premises due to suspected violations of food safety standards. Further action will be initiated based on the test results.

Dr. Gurpreet Kaur further informed that on October 6, the Food Safety teams also carried out inspections at various sweet shops, dairies, and kiryana stores in Nabha and Rajpura. Seven food samples of khoa-based sweets and spices were collected from Nabha, while four samples of khoa-based items and spices were collected from Rajpura. This proactive step was aimed at monitoring and controlling the quality of food being offered to consumers during the high-demand festive period.

Reaffirming the department’s commitment to public health, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur said that the Food Safety Department, Patiala, is determined to ensure that citizens have access to safe, hygienic, and high-quality food. With festive demand increasing, the department will continue to conduct rigorous inspections and take strict action against any violations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
