SAD nominee elected SGPC president for fifth time in a row

Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has once again been elected as head of Sikh Mini Parliament-Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) for fifth time in a row. He defeated Giani Harpreet Singh led akali dal candidate Mithu Singh Kahneke, who secured 18 votes.
Raghujeet Singh Virk elected senior vice-president , Baldev Singh junior vice-president and Sher Singh Mand will be the general secretary

Dhami secured 117 votes out of 136 votes polled. Compared to the 107 votes he received last time, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami secured 10 more votes in today’s election. The opposition group candidate received 15 fewer votes than the 33 votes they had obtained earlier.
SGPC members elected their president, senior vice-president, junior vice-president, general secretary and 11 executive committee members in the annual election held at Teja Singh Samundri Hall, headquarters of the organisation, in the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex in Amritsar.
As per the Gurdwara Act, 1925, the SGPC body has to be revamped every year by electing its president, senior vice-president, junior vice-president, general secretary and 15-member executive body, unanimously or through voting in the general house, if necessary.
