Short Term Course on “AI, Machine Learning and Cyber Security” Starts at UGC-MTTC, Punjabi University

Under the dynamic leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Punjabi University, Patiala, commenced a 6-day Short Term Course on AI, Machine Learning and Cyber Security.

The purpose of this Short-Term Course is to equip faculty members, researchers, and scholars with essential knowledge and practical skills in the rapidly advancing domains of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Cyber Security. The programme aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of fundamental and emerging technologies; cultivate awareness about ethical practices in the digital era, including data privacy, responsible AI use, and cybersecurity ethics; and familiarize them with modern computational tools, frameworks, and applications that are shaping the future of education and research.

Prof. Maini welcomed the chief guest of the day Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala and said that their inspiring leadership, academic vision, and continuous encouragement have been the driving force behind all the activities and progress of the UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC). He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Vice Chancellors for their unwavering support and motivation for every programme conducted under the banner of MMTTC. After that Dr. Maini Welcomed Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma,Vice Chancellor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathindaand thanked for the presence and distinguished contributions to the field of education and research, along with visionary approach to the institutional development. He thanked Course Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Lakhwinder Kaur, Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, and Co-Coordinator(Dr.) Harpreet Kaur, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, Punjabi University, Patiala for his efforts.Dr. Maini also welcomed all the Participants and assured all the participants that the course would feature sessions by renowned and experienced resource persons.

Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini, Director of the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala emphasized that at MMTTC, education is seen as the most powerful tool for meaningful transformation. Through this Short-Term Course, the Centre aspires to build a community that is digitally aware, technologically prepared, and ethically responsible. He highlighted that AI and Cyber Security are not just technological disciplines but societal necessities in today’s interconnected world. “In an era dominated by data and automation,” he said, “ethics, transparency, and responsibility must guide every technological advancement.”

The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, highlighted that Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security together represent the twin pillars of the digital future. He underscored the importance of developing intelligent systems that are secure, transparent, and beneficial to humanity. “True innovation,” he remarked, “lies in building technologies that are not only smart but also safe, responsible, and sustainable.” He appreciated the efforts of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre for organizing such a timely and relevant programme.

The Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, noted that AI and Machine Learning are transforming research, business, and governance worldwide. He emphasized the need for integrating ethical AI practices and robust cybersecurity measures in all sectors to ensure trust and reliability in digital systems. Dr. Sharma applauded MMTTC’s initiative for promoting faculty development in such emerging areas of critical importance.

Course Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Lakhwinder Kaur, Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, Punjabi University, Patiala, encouraged participants for innovative thinking, integrating the principles of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Cyber Security to address real-world challenges and contribute to technological advancement. She emphasized that AI and Cyber Security go hand in hand in addressing global challenges such as data protection, misinformation, and digital ethics. She urged young scholars to pursue originality, creativity, and authenticity in their research and professional work.

Course Co-Coordinator Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, Punjabi University, Patiala, introduced participants to the course themes and structure. She elaborated that the programme will cover key areas such as Fundamentals of AI and Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Deep Learning Applications, Cyber Threats and Defense Mechanisms, AI Ethics, and the Role of Machine Learning in Cyber Security. Dr. Harpreet encouraged active engagement and collaborative learning among participants. At the end of the inaugural session, he proposed a vote of thanks.

During the closing remarks, Dr Maini extended heartfelt praise and gratitude to the dedicated staff members Dr. Mandeep Singh (Technical Officer-II), Dyal Dutt, Surinder Singh, Kanta Rani, Mahaveer Singh and Surinder Kumar highlighting their exemplary organizational skills and crucial contributions in the online Short-Term Course.
