Congress Councillor Ashok Wahi assumes charge as Rupnagar MC President

Congress Municipal Councillor Ashok Wahi assumed charge as president of Municipal Council Rupnagar after issuance of notification by the Local governments department Punjab regarding his election.

It may be mentioned that Wahi was unanimously elected president while Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) Municipal Councillor Inderpal Singh Raju Satyal was elected senior vice president while  Congress Municipal Councillor Neeru Gupta was elected junior vice president of Municipal Council Rupnagar during elections of the office bearers held November 1.

The election of president was held following the removal of Sanjay Verma Bele Wale of Congress as president of the Municipal Council by the government after a no confidence motion was passed against him by the Municipal Councillors including Congress Municipal Councillors.

Sanjay Verma,who had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against his removal,failed to get immediate relief paving the way for the election.

It may also be mentioned that Wahi had already served as president of the municipal council once .It is his second stint as president.

His election as president is subject to the decision of Punjab and Haryana High Court on the petition moved by Sanjay Verma.

Ashok Wahi assumes charge as Rupnagar MC President

After assuming the charge as president,Ashok Wahi said that he would work sincerely for the allround development of the Rupnagar town in the remaining tenure of the council,which would expire in February.

Rupnagar MLA Dinesh Chadha,who was also present on the occasion,congratulated Wahi  and other office bearers .He assured his full cooperation for the accelerating the development works in the town.
