Donald Trump’s Greenland quest took a turn, he wants the US to acquire Greenland from Denmark but would not use any military forces to get it.
On Wednesday in a speech to World Economic Forum (WEF at Davos, Switzerland Trump said that he was seeking immediate negotiations. He wants to get Greenland for national security and world protection.
In Trump’s opinion, it is just a “small task” as from decades, America has always provided good defence to NATO countries. “You can say yes, and we will be very appreciative or you can say no, and we will remember” Trump said.
Trump‘s decision to not engage in military forces relaxed financial markets. “That’s probably the biggest statement I made because people thought I would use force. I don’t have to use force. I don’t want to use force. I won’t use force.” says Trump. But at the same time, he has warned European countries that their response now would lead to America’s tomorrow’s response especially regarding NATO.
Greenland is a Danish territory and Denmark is part of Europe and NATO. This lead to strong pushbacks from multiple European allies (Eastern Europe, Nordic countries, Germany, France, UK) and the European Union leaders are planning an emergency meeting so that they could decide the response to Trump’s Greenland demand and possible US tariffs on European countries.

The government of Greenland is in advance making preparations for invasion, but at present it’s seen as an unlikely scenario.
Canada is also concerned as to how it would respond to American invasion after Trump mentioned making it the 51st US state. Canadian military has modeled invasion response scenarios.
