Punjab Cabinet Minister for Education and Information & Public Relations, Harjot Singh Bains, said that the Aam Aadmi Party government has fulfilled its promise of free and quality healthcare which is a landmark scheme under which every family in Punjab will receive free medical treatment up to Rs. 10 lakh.

Bains said that with this scheme, even the costliest private hospitals—earlier accessible only to the rich—are now open to farmers, labourers, and the poor, ensuring that no citizen is denied treatment due to lack of money. He added that Punjab has become the first state in the country to guarantee free healthcare for women, along with free education, free electricity, and free bus travel.

Recalling the health guarantee given before the elections, the Minister said that over the past four years, the government has established nearly 1,000 Mohalla Clinics, while previous governments together had opened only about 400 Primary Health Centres in 75 years. Another 500 Mohalla Clinics are under construction, and 2,500 Village Clinics will be opened in the coming months.

He said that the shortage of doctors in government hospitals has been addressed with the recruitment of 1,100 specialist doctors, ensuring quality healthcare services across the state.

Bains said that under the scheme, all medicines, tests, and treatments up to Rs. 10 lakh will be completely free in empanelled government and private hospitals in Punjab and Chandigarh. Health cards will be issued to all 65 lakh families, covering nearly three crore citizens, without any income limit or discrimination.

Bains informed that 850 hospitals have already been empanelled, with 2,356 treatment packages included, covering major treatments such as heart and cancer care, dialysis and transplants, brain and spinal surgeries, maternity services, and emergency care. Hospitals will be reimbursed within 15 days, with the government having already paid the advance premium.

He said that this scheme has set a new benchmark in public welfare, ensuring healthcare security for every family in Punjab.

Bains stated that registrations under the Chief Minister’s Health Care Scheme have commenced across all regions of Punjab, including the Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency. He said that every citizen of Punjab is eligible to be covered under this scheme. Urging people to come forward for registration, he encouraged them to avail the benefits of this landmark government welfare initiative. He added that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal have fulfilled their promises to the people. He further informed that the registration process is being regularly monitored to ensure smooth implementation.
