Singing sensation Arijit Singh has decided to retire from playback singing, sharing the news with his followers through his Instagram account.

Arijit Singh, the singer of back-to-back superhits like Tum Hi Ho, Hawayein, Zaalima, among many others, has stunned millions of fans with his announcement of retiring from playback singing at 38.

Having established himself as a leading voice in the Indian music industry, Singh thanked listeners for their support and explained his decision to step away from taking new assignments as a playback vocalist.

Arijit Singh is widely regarded as one of India’s most celebrated and beloved singers. On the global stage, too, he ranks among the highest-paid artists, having collaborated with international stars such as Ed Sheeran and Martin Garrix.

Arijit also thanked fans for their love towards him, but said that he is “calling it off.” “Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” read his note.

On his private X account, Atmojoarjalojo, the singer had made the announcement. He also said, “GOD has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and in future will be learning more and do more on my own as a small little artist. Thanks again for all your support.”

Arijit clarified that while he is stepping back from new playback assignments, he won’t stop making music and will still complete some pending projects. He wrote: “I still have to finish some pending commitments will finish them. So you might get some releases this year.”
