DC launches enrolment campaign–2026 in Patiala, flags off awareness van to cover all 16 education blocks

Deputy Commissioner Patiala, Varjeet Walia, on Thursday launched the Enrolment Campaign–2026 for government schools in the district and flagged off an awareness van that will cover all 16 education blocks over the next three days.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said that the enrolment drive aims to highlight the quality education, modern infrastructure, and student-friendly facilities available in government schools. He encouraged parents to enrol their children in government schools, emphasising that these institutions are providing education on par with private schools.

DC Varjeet Walia stated that government schools are equipped with excellent infrastructure, and students are being provided free textbooks, uniforms, and mid-day meals, ensuring holistic development. He added that the future of Punjab is in safe hands, as teachers in government schools are highly competent and dedicated.

While launching the campaign at the Government Elementary Smart School, Model Town (Block Patiala-3), the Deputy Commissioner said that from pre-primary to Class XII, government schools are not lagging behind private schools in any manner.

He further said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, government schools have been upgraded into world-class institutions under the Sikhya Kranti, with a strong focus on improving education infrastructure and learning outcomes.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner also honoured two meritorious students of the School of Eminence, Pheelkhana, with a cash award of ₹11,000 each for their outstanding performance in the Class X examinations.

Providing district-wise details, DC Varjeet Walia informed that Patiala district has 939 elementary schools, 170 middle schools, 96 high schools, and 109 senior secondary schools, including 10 Schools of Eminence, 29 PM SHRI Schools, 33 Schools of Happiness, and one School of Brilliance, all of which are delivering quality education.

Reiterating his appeal, the Deputy Commissioner urged parents to enrol their children in government schools in maximum numbers. He also encouraged teachers to take proactive initiatives to ensure that no child is left behind, noting that education is a fundamental right under the Right to Education Act. He further motivated students to fully utilise the best facilities available in government schools to secure a bright future.

On this occasion, District Education Officer Elementary, Shalu Mehra, Deputy DEOs Manvinder Kaur Bhullar and Dr. Ravinderpal Singh, Block Primary Education Officer Patiala-3 Jaswinder Singh, Narinder Singh, Jagjit Walia, Lakhwinder Singh Kuldeep Singh, Parvinder Singh, Principals of all the schools, and a large number of parents of children were present.
