The Punjabi Wikimedians User Group has launched a large-scale digital campaign titled “Wiki Loves Punjab 2026” with the aim of documenting and presenting Punjab’s villages on a global platform. The campaign began on 1 February and will continue until 15 March 2026. Its primary objective is to upload high-quality photographs of every village of Eastern Punjab and Western Punjab to Wikimedia Commons, making them freely accessible to people worldwide.
Providing details, the group’s Volunteer Media In-charge Aman Arora said the campaign is being conducted under the supervision and guidance of senior Wikimedians Nitesh Gill, Sukhjiwan Geet Arts, and the group’s coordinator Kuldeep Singh Burj Bhalaike. Through this initiative, village streets, schools, panchayat buildings, hospitals, religious places, heritage sites, and natural landscapes across Punjab will be systematically documented.
He noted that information and images related to Punjab’s villages are often unavailable on the internet. This campaign aims to digitally preserve the authentic rural identity and cultural heritage of Punjab for future generations.
Another key objective of the campaign is to strengthen content related to Punjab’s villages on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and other Wikimedia projects. The addition of authentic photographs will enhance the credibility and depth of village-related articles and data.
Aman Arora stated that anyone can participate in the campaign. Participants may upload their original photographs using the Wikimedia Commons upload tool. It is mandatory to include the village name, district, tehsil, and precise location details with each uploaded image.

He further added that, at the conclusion of the campaign, participants who make the most significant and high-quality contributions will be honored.
On behalf of the Punjabi Wikimedia User Group, Aman Arora appealed to all Punjab’s youth, students, social organizations, and residents of Punjab to take part in this historic digital initiative by sharing photographs of their villages. Detailed information and participation guidelines are available on the campaign’s official page on Wikimedia Commons.
For practical assistance related to photo uploads, interested participants may contact the coordinator Kuldeep Singh Burj Bhalaike at 94786-64228.
