After keeping patience for more than two weeks, the faculty in Punjab Government medical and dental colleges has started feeling unrest for failure of the new minister OP Soni to take over the charge of the department of Medical Education and Research even after more than two weeks of the cabinet reshuffle.

The main apprehension of the faculty is the past bitter experience from the previous government led by Parkash Singh Badal when most of the important issues related to improvement in the medical education and some major demands of the medical dental teachers remained unsolved due to the in coordination and strained relations between the then chief minister and the medical education minister.

OP Soni Medical Education and Research Minister fails to join new department

Under the present Government with medical education and research portfolio under cabinet minister Brahm Mohindra, some of the major demands of the medical and dental teachers were under active consideration and in advanced stage to get fulfilled but have been stalled due to cabinet reshuffle.

Making a strong appeal on behalf of Punjab State Medical & Dental Teachers Association, Dr DS Bhullar General Secretary of the association has urged Chief Minister Capt. Amrinder Singh to break this impasse in the interest of the medical education department.

The Association has further urged the Chief Minister to re-allocate the medical education and research portfolio to Brahm Mohindra or retain the same under his direct control if the new minister is not willing to take over the charge of this department.

It is also humiliation to the community of the medical and dental experts and technocrats that such an important department where cream of the society is serving the ailing patients, has been declared as unimportant evident from the fact that the new minister is not willing to join and under such circumstances, the previous history may get repeated with setback to the functioning in medical education department.
