5 Lakh assistance from Pb Govt for Hockey Olympian Balbir Singh Senior’s treatment

The Chief Minister, Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh has released the assistance amount of Rs. 5 Lakh for the treatment of Triple Olympic Gold Medallist Hockey Olympian Balbir Singh Senior who is undergoing treatment at PGI. The cheque was today handed over by the Director Sports, Punjab and Additional Principal Secretary of the Chief Minister Amrit Kaur Gill to the maternal grandson Kabir Singh of the legendary player at PGI.

Amrit Kaur Gill said that she went to enquire after the health of Balbir Singh Senior on the directions of the Chief Minister and apart from handing over the cheque to the family also assured them of every possible assistance on behalf of the Chief Minister.The Director Sports also divulged that the Chief Minister while praying for the speedy recovery of the legend has directed the Sports Department to leave no stone unturned in ensuring top level treatment to Balbir Singh Senior.

It is worth mentioning that Balbir Singh Senior aged 94 years won 3 Olympic Gold Medals at the London Olympics in 1948, Helsinki Olympics in 1952 and Melbourne Olympics in 1956. He was the Captain of the Indian Hockey team in 1956 Olympic Games and the flag bearer of the Indian Olympic contingent. He was the Manager of the 1975 World Cup winning team.
