The Punjab government has issued transfer and posting orders for 12 IAS officers and one PCS officer. Among those transferred are four Deputy Commissioners.

Two IAS officers who were awaiting postings — Sumeer Singh Gujjar and Jaspreet Singh — have now been assigned new responsibilities.

The key highlight of the reshuffle is the withdrawal of Deputy Commissioner (DC) charge from IAS officer Abhijeet Kaplish. He had been holding dual responsibilities as Deputy Commissioner of Sri Muktsar Sahib and Director of Mines and Geology, Punjab.

Earlier, the news portal RoyalPatiala.in had flagged concerns regarding this dual charge in its report titled “Punjab Bureaucracy in 4 Years of AAP Rule: Suspensions for Some, Key Posts for ‘Blue-Eyed’ Officers.” The report pointed out that Kaplish was managing a district located nearly 250 kilometres from the state capital while simultaneously overseeing the state’s mining department.

The issue had also been raised within administrative circles, particularly in the context of the state’s inability to generate the expected revenue from the mining sector. Questions were raised about how effectively Kaplish could perform his duties as Director of Mines and Geology while being stationed far from the department’s headquarters.

The Mines and Geology Department functions under the Punjab Water Resources Department, which is headquartered in Chandigarh.
