Government Arts & Sports College, Jalandhar, in strategic collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), Ministry of AYUSH, commemorated the 67th Countdown Day to International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 with great enthusiasm, academic excellence, and disciplined participation.

The programme witnessed an overwhelming response, with the participation of more than 600 attendees, including sports professionals, scholars, students, and faculty members. The event beautifully reflected the harmonious integration of Yogic science with sports culture, reinforcing Jalandhar’s identity as a vibrant sports city.

The programme featured a mass demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol, insightful expert lectures highlighting the scientific, therapeutic, and practical dimensions of Yoga, and a specialized workshop on “Yoga for Diabetes,” emphasizing its significant role in preventive and promotive healthcare.

The ceremony commenced with a floral felicitation of distinguished guests, followed by a detailed introduction of the programme by the Convener, Dr. Charu Sharma, Head of the Department of Yoga. The formal welcome address was delivered by the Principal, Dr. Ranbir Singh, while the inaugural address was eloquently presented by the  Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Pushpinder Singh Gill.

An erudite keynote address was delivered by Dr. Ram Narayan Mishra, Research Officer (Yoga), Ministry of AYUSH, New Delhi. Valuable insights were also shared by Dr. Nidheesh Kumar Yadav, Associate Professor and Head, Yogananda School of Spirituality and Happiness, Shoolini University, Solan (Himachal Pradesh), and Sanjeev Tyagi, Director, Everest Yoga & Pilates Institute, Ludhiana. Dr. Shivam Mishra, Director, Yoga Sangh Khoj, Vice President, GLG Yoga School, and Founder of SKM Yoga, also presented his perspective on Yoga in the modern world with clarity and contemporary relevance.

The workshop on “Yoga for Diabetes” was conducted with remarkable clarity and practical orientation by Sumit Nagpaul, providing participants with hands-on understanding and practical techniques.
