Chandigarh University (CU) is maintaining its upward march in global rankings for academic excellence, innovative pedagogy, research and placements by securing a place among world’s top 300 Universities in three key subjects including Computer Science and Information Systems, Electrical-Electronics Engineering and Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering in the latest edition of the prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2026, said Prof (Dr) RS Bawa, Advisor to Chancellor of Chandigarh University while addressing a Press Conference at Patiala .

“Chandigarh University has also more than doubled the number of subjects ranked in Subject-Wise rankings with the number of its ranked subjects going up from five in the 2025 Rankings to 11 Subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subjects-2026. This achievement in the QS World University Rankings by Subjects-2026 has made Chandigarh University rank amongst world’s top 1 % universities which has solidified CU’s reputation as a leading institution of higher education, both in India and internationally,” he added.

Prof (Dr) Bawa said reaffirming its ever-growing global reputation for academic excellence, Chandigarh University secured top ranks in 11 key subjects including Computer Science and Information System, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, Chemistry, Business Management, Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Economics.

“This top performance in the  QS World University Rankings by Subjects-2026 is based on top scores secured by Chandigarh University in all the five quality indicators including Academic Reputation which exemplifies academic excellence, Employer Reputation which indicates the university’s standing among employers, Citations per Paper which reflects a university’s research impact and quality, H-Index which quantifies scholarly output and influence and International Research Network (IRN) which assesses an institution’s global engagement for research partnerships,” he added.

Sharing details of the placement of Chandigarh University students, Prof (Dr) Bawa said, “Chandigarh University continues to be a top choice for leading national and international recruiters with more than 1300 recruiters offering over 10,000 jobs to CU’s 2025 batch students. The highest international package touched Rs 1.74 crore, while the highest domestic offer stood at Rs 54.75 lakh. Over 31 of these recruiters extended job offers amounting to Rs 20 lakh or above, while 52 companies provided opportunities with annual salary packages exceeding Rs 15 lakh,”

Prof Bawa said, “Over 1600 students from Punjab received job offers from top MNCs and Indian companies in 2024 and 2025. Nearly 1100 of these CU students are from Malwa. As many as 138 students from Patiala have secured job offers from top brands in these two years.”

Sharing placement details of students from Patiala, he said, “Deepanshi, a native of Patiala who pursued Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University Institute of Applied Health Sciences at Chandigarh University has received a job offer of Rs 4.5 lakh from Miduty Pvt Ltd. Similarly, Gurjot Kaur, also a resident of Patiala who is currently pursuing an MBA from the University School of Business (USB) at CU has received a job offer of Rs 4 lakh per annum from MWIDM India Pvt Ltd.”

Prof Bawa said the NCC wing at Chandigarh University has fulfilled the aspirations of students wishing to serve the nation, as many as 50 cadets trained at NCC wing of CU has been commissioned as officers in all three wings of Indian Armed Forces.

Prof Bawa said Chandigarh University is providing scholarships worth Rs 250 Crore through its admission-cum-scholarship entrance exam, Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test 2026 (CUCET 2026), to support meritorious and financially disadvantaged students by offering up to 100 per cent scholarships for admission to its Mohali and Lucknow campuses. “CUCET 2025 is a gateway to world-class education and a lifeline for deserving students who lack the means to pursue their academic goal. Chandigarh University has earmarked Rs 250 crore in scholarships for 2026 — Rs 200 crore for students at the Mohali campus and Rs 50 crore for recently introduced AI-augmented Chandigarh University Lucknow campus. Students can easily apply for CUCET 2025 through the university’s portal (https://www.cuchd.in/scholarship/),” he said.

Prof Bawa said, “Since, the establishment of Chandigarh University, Mohali campus in 2012 as many as 1.30 lakh students from 28 states and 8 union territories of India and many students from foreign countries have also availed the scholarships offered by CU. In the current academic year 2025-26, as many as 11,626 students from Punjab have availed scholarship benefits of Chandigarh University’s scholarship schemes. Out of this, 5243 students from Punjab were given scholarship through CUCET and 6383 students were given scholarships through other scholarship schemes,”.

Sharing details about Chandigarh University’s defence scholarship, he said, “Over the last 13 years, Chandigarh University has awarded Defence scholarships worth Rs 6 Crore to 5,723 students which is a reflection of its enduring commitment to the families of those who serve the nation. The wards and family members of Defence Personnel can avail benefits of Armed Forces Educational Welfare Scheme (AFEWS) and Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra Scholarship. As many as 66 students from Punjab availed benefits of Defence Scholarship in 2025.”

Elaborating on CU’s Research and Innovation oriented academia, Dr (Prof) Bawa said, “Chandigarh University has more than 20,000 research publications to its credit and more than 5519 patents have been filed, 5212 patents published and 238 patents were granted in varied domains by the students and faculty members of the varsity. In 2024-25 alone, CU students have filed 743 patents, 770 patents filed by students were published and 49 such patents were granted.”

“Showcasing the growing global research impact and influence of Chandigarh University, as many as 44 faculty members from varied academic domains were featured among the world’s top 2 per cent scientists as per the Stanford University–Elsevier list released in 2025. CU secured the 9th position in International Research among all private universities in India and 12th rank among all universities nationwide, as per the QS Asia University Rankings 2026 ,” he added.

“Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator (CU-TBI) has launched more than 250 student Start-Ups successfully.  To arm its students with research-intensive learning, CU allocates an annual budget of Rs 15 crore every year. CU has received Rs 90 Crore for research and innovation projects from the Ministry of Science & Technology in the last 5 years alone,” added Bawa.

Sharing details regarding industry-academia interface at CU, Dr (Prof) Bawa said, “CU provides environment conducive to innovation and discovery with as many as 30 Industry-sponsored Advanced Research Labs and 32 Centers of Excellence (COEs) established by leading multinational corporations such as Microsoft, Cisco, Hyundai, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini and IBM among others. Apart from this, CU also houses 60 research centers,”.

Dr (Prof) Bawa further said, “CU was accredited with an A+ rating by NAAC, placing it among the top 5 per cent universities in India to get the coveted accreditation and holds accreditation from the US-based Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), placing it among the top 0.1 percent of Indian universities with accredited engineering programs and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA),”.

Sharing details regarding the international academic collaborations of CU Prof Bawa said, “Providing global academic and research exposure to its students, Chandigarh University has established 530 international collaborations with prestigious global universities, as a result more than 2300 CU students got the opportunity to study at prestigious global universities in United States of America, Australia, Canada and UK among other European countries and other nation all across the world through semester exchange, international programs and internships. CU has more than 2100 visiting international faculty members including 560 international research network scholars and more than 3,000 international students from 65 countries study at Chandigarh University,”.

While mentioning Chandigarh University’s achievements in sports, Prof Bawa said,” Chandigarh University became the first private university in the country to win the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA Trophy) by securing the highest number of medals (71) in the Khelo India University Games 2024. In recently concluded 5th Khelo India University Games, Chandigarh University won 67 medals, including 42 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze, leaving behind more than 5000 athletes from 200 universities. CU Has been the winner of the fourth and fifth Khelo India University Games for two consecutive years.”

“The students of CU have won 610 medals including 138 national and 87 international medals in 2025.  Chandigarh university allocates an annual sports budget of Rs 6.5 crore to provide various facilities to the sportspersons free of cost. As many as 1183 student athletes including 79 from Punjab, are availing the scholarship at CU. They include 562 girls.   CU has produced sportspersons of national and international repute including ; India’s top fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, Arjuna Awardee Pawan Sherawat who is the Captain of Indian Kabaddi Team and Indian Hockey Player Sanjay, who was part of the Indian Hockey Team that won Bronze medal in Paris Olympic Games are among many other athletes who are  pursuing their higher studies at CU”, Prof Bawa said.

“Reaffirming CU’s rising stature as a leading hub of art and cultural excellence, the university clinched the Overall Championship at the AIU 39th Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival 2026 for the fifth time, winning overall trophies in Music, Literary and Fine Arts categories,” added Prof Bawa.
