Apprenticeship Pakhwara celebrated at Chandigarh

A State level function was organized at the U.T. Guest House today by the Directorate of Technical Education, UT, Chandigarh to celebrate the concluding function on account of Apprenticeship Pakhwara programme in Chandigarh as per the directions of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Govt of India.

Arun Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Home cum Principal Secretary Technical Education, UT, Chandigarh urged the local units of Industry to come forward in engaging Apprentices in their establishments/ organisations.  He stated that Chandigarh Administration aspires to create such an enabling environment for the apprentices and the industries where there is a mutual benefit sharing and also the compliance of the provisions of the Apprenticeship Act 1961.

Sachin Rana, State Apprenticeship Advisor, Chandigarh urged the Private Organisations as well as Govt. / Semi Govt. organizations, to offer the Apprentices the opportunities to get themselves trained on the actual Shop floor and real world scenario. He highlighted that Apprentices Act need to be implemented in letter and spirit and as per the provision of the Act, all the organisations must deploy at least 2.5 per cent Apprentices in their manpower, to train and also to create gainful employment for the young Apprentices.

A number of activities/programmes were organized during the Apprenticeship Pakhwara in Chandigarh and students from I.T.Is., Polytechnics, Colleges and Schools were engaged to make them aware about the details of the Apprenticeship Act, 1961.

During this function, a number of stakeholders were also present and they agreed to implement the aforesaid Apprenticeship Act in their respective establishments and help the trainees to enter in skill eco-system as Apprentices. Representatives from Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India were also present and gave valuable inputs about the recent amendments made in the Apprenticeship Act, 1961.

The Chandigarh State Apprenticeship Advisor will be making efforts to make it obligatory in the Govt. Organizations to engage Apprentices in the offices of UT Chandigarh Administration.

In the end, best establishments like Chandigarh Transport Undertaking, JW Marriot Chandigarh and Hyatt Regency and others, were facilitated for their encouraging contribution along with the students who were winners in various competitions i.e. Quiz, Poster, Slogan Writing, etc. organized during the Apprenticeship Pakhwara week
