World Kabaddi Cup; DC’s to head district level venue committees

The Venue Committees at District level have been constituted in order to make the World Kabaddi Cup tournament a memorable event. It is worth noting that the Sports Minister rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi had recently announced that World Kabaddi Cup would be organized which would be dedicated to the 550th Prakash Purb of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The matches would be played at Amritsar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, Bathinda, Patiala and Ropar.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesman said that the Chairman of the committees would be the DC of the concerned district whereas the Police Commissioner/SSP, ADC, DPRO, Civil Surgeon, 2 nominated members of the Punjab Kabaddi Association would be its members. The concerned District Sports Officer would be the Convener of the committee.
The committees have been assigned the task of completing various arrangements such as the repair works at the stadiums, renovation, arrangements for toilets, whitewashing and ensuring seating capacity for 15000-20000 persons by November 25th.
The inauguration would be held on the 1st December at Guru Nanak Stadium Sultanpur Lodhi and four matches would be held that day. The closing ceremony would be held at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sports Stadium in Dera Baba Nanak and apart from the final match, 3rd and 4th position matches would also be played on this day.
Rana Sodhi further added that 9 teams would be participating in the tournament. These would be India, USA, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan and Canada. Barring, Pakistan and Canada, all teams have got NOC from the Union Government. The NOC with regard to these 2 countries is still awaited. Emphasizing the appropriate decoration of the stadiums, Rana Sodhi directed that the Backdrops, Hoardings and Banners be suitably displayed.
