GNDU organized 34th annual national seminar on Guru Nanak Dev ji

The Department of Guru Nanak Studies of Guru Nanak Dev University organized 34th One Day Annual National Seminar on ‘Re-visiting of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Fundamental Ideals and Institutions’ in the Auditorium Hall of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan of the University.
Prof. Jagbir Singh, former Professor and Head, Punjabi Department, Delhi University, Delhi inaugurated the seminar. Prof. Balkar Singh, former Professor & Head, Department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala delivered the keynote address and Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, former Jathedar, Sri Akal Takht Sahib presided over the session. Dr. Dalbir Singh Pannu from USA was guest of honor on this occasion. Prof. Amarjit Singh, Head of the Department welcomed the guests and other dignitaries. Prof. Jagbir Singh said that Guru Nanak Dev ji is modern leader of religious consciousness who believes in culture of dialog with contemporary situations as well as with heritage. In a way his religious experience created an atmosphere in which many variations may exist without any mutal contradictions.
In his keynote address, Prof. Balkar Singh said that the Sikh studies is still undergoing phase of development. He said that political interference and non-academic elements have created problems in Sikh studies. Today, on the discussionon Guru Nanak Dev ji in modern context combination of religious experience and academic quest, have been imperative. He has also emphasized on the combination of religion and culture.
A book entitled ‘The Heritage of Sikhs Beyond Borders’ of Dr. Pannu was also released on this occasion. At the end, Dr. Bharatbir Kaur Sandhu presented vote of thanks.
