Punjab offers supply of sugar from co-operative mills to Himachal Pradesh

Punjab Government has offered to supply the sugar produced in the cooperative mills of Punjab to the Himachal Pradesh. The offer was made by the Cooperation Minister, Punjab, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa during his meeting with the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur at Himachal Bhawan Chandigarh on Saturday.
Jai Ram Thakur directed the Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies, Himachal Pradesh to work on the proposal. He also suggested the Punjab Minister to submit a comprehensive proposal mentioning the financial aspects on this account. He said that the Himachal Pradesh Government would actively consider the proposal.
Vice Chairman HP State Civil Supplies Corporation Baldev Tomar Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies Department of Himachal Pradesh Amitabh Avasthi, Chairman Punjab Sugarfed Amrik Singh Aliwal and other senior officers were present in the meeting,in which Punjab offers supply of sugar from co-operative mills to Himachal Pradesh.
Cooperative sugar mills in Punjab
Punjab Sugarfed is an apex body of fifteen Cooperative Sugar Mills in the state.1.80 lac farmers families are connected with the sugar mills in the State. Punjab Cooperative Sugar Mills are providing services to the farmers such as disease free seed, pest control management timely purchase of their produce and making them timely payment to encourage them to grow more quality sugarcane in the State. Sugar mills are also introducing high Sucrose Content & high yield varieties of sugarcane for the benefit of industry and the farmers.
