State’s bread and butter excise department fails to update itself digitally

Excise and Taxation department of any state is always a bread and butter earning department of that state. The state needs revenue to run it smoothly. Excise and taxation department is the main source of revenue generation is state’s exchequer.

Remained in controversy for not clearing its excise policy 2020-21, even after passing around 40 days in the new financial year, the department fails to update its mouthpiece-website.

In today’s time, when we are growing strong digitally, when every work is done digitally and website of any department is the mouthpiece of that department, if it is not updated, everyone can imagine the working of its department.Every businessman, trader, industrialist visit excise and taxation department website to get updated information.

As per the information available on its website the officials were still holding the charge, even after they left the department, years ago.

In one case, Gurpal Singh Chahal, IAS, holds the charge of Director E&T (GST), even today. Whereas Gurpal Singh Chahal had been appointed as deputy commissioner Mansa and he joined there on around February 20,2020.

Even the website shows LK Jain holding charge of Director Training School, where as the charge is now given to Harsimrat Kaur.

The Department has a separate agency known as Excise & Taxation Technical Services Agency (ETTSA) to look after the technical and other modernisation related issues of the department.

The website shows Kumar Saurab Raj IAS as Excise and Taxation Technical Service Agency (ETTSA) CEO. Whereas he has been appointed deputy commissioner Faridkot in April 2019 . Also as per excise and taxation website Jaspal Garg is shown as Additional CEO,ETTSA, where as he has already been retired. These are just few of the cases.

Even some of the landline numbers of the field offices shown in the website, are incorrect, not  updated or even some are disconnected for nonpayment.
