Boosting exports-15 percent discount by PBTI on testing of agri products to Punjab’s exporter

With a view to boosting export of agri-products amid COVID-19 restrictions, the Punjab Biotechnology Incubator (PBTI) has approved a flat 15% discount on all product testing facilities in PBTI facility for registered Punjab-based exporters besides introducing special packages to further support the exporter community.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson said that the PBTI was providing testing services such as Residue Analysis, Microbial Analysis, Adulterants and Food Additive analysis, which form an important part of the stringent export guidelines of international locations such as European Union. The spokesperson further said that major exports from the State during the lockdown period were rice, honey, milk and milk products to key markets such as European Union, UK and UAE and the relief extended by the Incubator would be immensely beneficial for all agri and food exporters.

The Invest Punjab, investment promotion and facilitation agency of the State has  conducted brainstorming sessions with the government  departments, industry, exporters and entrepreneurs in the Agri and Food Sector to identify initiatives which can help the Punjab-led businesses to capture most of the growing demand for agri products globally. In one such session, it was also highlighted by the exporter fraternity that some relaxation in testing charges would render exports from the State more viable, he added.

Pertinently, the PBTI is a component of Agri Food Biotechnology Cluster SAS Nagar (Mohali), which provides accredited analytical services, testing facilities, contract research, etc. to farmers, entrepreneurs, startups, and exporters.

It may be recalled that the Invest Punjab is working on the forefront to facilitate the investors and industry operating in the food processing sector in Punjab to ensure smooth international and domestic operations of their essential goods during the curfew and lockdown. PBTI labs have also facilitated the Punjab exporters of essential goods during the lockdown to ensure uninterrupted supply of their goods due to the increased demand from European countries.
