Powerful IAS officer gets CMD PSPCL charge

Senior bureaucrat and principal secretary power, A Venu Prasad, today evening assumed charge of chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), after Baldev Singh Sran’s two year eventful stint ends today.
A Venu Prasad, IAS of 1991 batch, is M.Sc ( Agriculture), MBA Finance, MA Public Policy ( Syracuse University), IFS, holds the charge of Principal Secretary, Water Resources, Mines and Geology, in addition Principal Secretary, Power, in addition Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Punjab State Transmission Corporation Ltd. and in addition Financial Commissioner Taxation.Now he gets the charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd
The new CMD, Prasad, had served in this post for more than a year before the selection of Baldev Singh Sran as CMD, PSPCL.
The immediate challenge for A Venu Prasad, new CMD is ensuring proper supply during paddy sowing season, which is going to start, this month.
Another challenge, Prasad is facing, about the auctioning and smooth opening of liquor vends in Punjab.
Outgoing CMD Baldev Singh Sran, a power engineer, was known for taking decisions on merit, ignoring political considerations. A technocrat, Sran retired as PSPCL chief engineer in February 2018 and appointed as CMD in June 2018. He was the president of PSEB engineers association for five years.
