VC Punjabi University Prof Ghuman leads the forefront of donation campaign

Punjabi University, Patiala has recently been included in the list of section 80-G of income tax by Income Tax Department , Government of India under which the amount donated an institute is exempted from income tax. This raises a good hope that the well-wishers of the university will come forward for donations.
Taking an initiative in this direction, Vice Chancellor Prof. B. S. Ghuman has personally donated Rs. 2 lakhs to the University which demonstrates his love and commitment to his alma mater. It is to be mentioned that Dr. Ghuman, himself is an alumnus of Punjabi University, Patiala, and his initiative shows how emotionally the alumni are attached to their alma mater. By coming forward, he has set an example for others to follow. Presenting the cheque to the University, he appealed to all the well wishers of the Punjabi University for such support. He said that Punjabi University, Patiala during its glorious strides in the field of Punjabi language, literature, culture, teaching and research has come up as one of the renowned centres of learning the world. Punjabi University has been scaling heights in academic world, as its wellwishers have been directly or indirectly attached to it for their love for Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat . But as we all know, for some time our university is going through a financial crisis and therefore, the cooperation of all of us is needed to strengthen financial condition of this institution. He has strongly appealed for everyone’s cooperation .He has urged all the wellwishers to come forward for financial support to the University. He assured that the amount donated would further raise the academic standards of the university.
Dean Academic Affairs Dr. Gurdeep Singh Batra, appreciating this move, said that if any person or organization wants to donate to Punjabi University, they should contact the Registrar’s Donation Fund Account (Account No. 37580759472, IFSC : SBIN0050009, Branch Punjabi University).This amount can be one-time or recurring (monthly, quarterly, Bi convenience.
Registrar Dr. Devinderpal Singh Sidhu told that if any person / organization wants to contribute in any form or kind of donation’ (property etc.), to further boost the academic standards of the various departments / institutions of the University, they all are welcome. If any person wants to start a commemorative fellowship in any department / center / constituent college of the university, he / she can apply for fellowship under prescribed guidelines, he told.
Finance Officer Dr. Rakesh Khurana told that the recent inclusion of the University in Section 80-G of the Income Tax Act by the Income Tax Department of the Government of India is a good sign as more donors are expected to come forward.
