As the Punjab Vidhan Sabha unanimously passed four historic bills, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh once again emerged as ‘Kisani da Rakha’ by protecting the farmers, arhtiyas and farm labourers of Punjab from draconian laws of Central Government. While expressing this, school education and public works minister Punjab Vijay Inder Singla said that these bills will also protect the consumers from hoarding and black marketing of agricultural produce. He added that these bills were the written assurance of MSP to the farmers and these bills also seek to provide minimum three year imprisonment and fine for procuring wheat or paddy under MSP.

Vijay Inder Singla said that CM Captain Amarinder Singh has already assured the residents of Punjab that he is ready to pay any price which could be resignation or dismissal of state government but will not let the farmers suffer. He added that all the MLAs of the Congress party were also firmly supporting him and were ready to tender mass resignation for the welfare of Punjab. He said that apart from negating the influence of Union Government’s farm laws, these four bills would also provide firm support in legal fight against draconian laws.

The cabinet minister said that by passing The Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2020, the Congress government has assured that no sale/purchase will be done below MSP. He added that any violation of the same shall invite imprisonment of minimum three years and fine as well. He said that The Essential Commodities (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2020 protect the consumers from hoarding & black marketing of agriculture produce.

Singla said that ‘The Code of Civil Procedure (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2020’ has also been aimed to provide major relief to farmers as land holding below 2.5 Acres shall not be attached in any recovery proceeding by any court in Punjab. He added that the Bill seeks to protect the Farmers of Punjab from attachment of farm land in any recovery proceedings.
