AIIMS & Central university of Punjab signs MoU to promote new academic partnership

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bathinda (AIIMS Bathinda) and Central University of Punjab Bathinda (CUPB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation in education, innovation and research in the field of biomedical and related sciences.

The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place on Wednesday at AIIMS, Bathinda where Prof. Dinesh Kumar Singh, Director, AIIMS Bathinda, and Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, CUPB inked the pact in the presence of journalists, and officials from both sides.

While interacting with Journalists, Prof. Dinesh Kumar Singh, Director, AIIMS Bathinda, shared that under this MOU, both the institutes will work together to promote academic and research activities related to basic as well as clinical sciences with special focus on common monogenic multifactorial/ adult-onset disorders prevalent in Malwa region of Punjab. He stressed that the overall aim of this MOU will be to understand the cause of the disease (including clinical & molecular machinery and environment factors) to develop targeted and tailored therapy for previously untreatable cases, and to develop durable cures for society. He asserted that both CUPB & AIIMS Bathinda have huge potential to contribute to the nation & this collaboration will provide a way forward to both Institutes to become the Centre of Excellence.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, CUPB, mentioned that the objective of this MOU is to promote the knowledge of medical sciences in India, to secure cooperation between both institutes, and to work together to advance the progress of medical/basic sciences. He stated this pact is aimed to promote interaction among faculty members, scientists, scholars and students of both these institutes to help each other & share latest knowledge in their research areas. He emphasized, this MOU will promote collaboration in areas of conducting joint research, developing proposals for joint research projects, working as supervisor/co-supervisor for Ph.D. scholars, and providing each other access of research facilities present in their institutes. He expressed his belief that this will be a historic moment for the people of Punjab as the premier medical & education institute of this region managed by the central government will work together to generate new knowledge for the welfare of society.

On this occasion, Divendra Singh Rawat (Deputy Director Administration), Dr Satish Gupta (Deputy Medical Superintendent), Dr. Akhilesh Pathak (Professor and Head, Department of Forensic medicine and toxicology), Dr. Lajya Goyal (Dean Research), Dr. Navita Aggarwal (Registrar AIIMS, Bathinda), Dr. Tarun Goyal (Department of Orthopaedic), Dr. Kawaljit Singh Kaura (Department of Urology), Dr. Lata Goyal (Department of Dentistry), Dr. Pankaj Sharma (Department of Orthopaedic) were present from AIIMS Bathinda. The programme was attended by Prof. Vinod K. Garg (Dean Student Welfare), Prof. R.K. Wusirika (Dean Incharge Academics), Prof. Anjana Munshi (Dean Research), Shri. Kanwal Pal Singh Mundra, (Registrar, CUPB), Dr. Sandeep Singh (Dept. of Human Genetics and Molecular Medicine), Dr. Rubal Kanozia (Dept. of Mass Communication & Media Studies), and Robin Jindal (Public Relation Officer) from Central University of Punjab.
