Punjabi University VC’s resignation row; CM gave his assent

In a latest development, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has recommended acceptance of resignation of Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr BS Ghuman.
Ghuman had submitted his resignation to the Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of Punjabi University Patiala. The governor forwarded his resignation to the state government, for comments. With the approval given by the chief minister to accept his resignation, governor will formally accept the resignation of the vice chancellor.
As per sources, “The resignation has been accepted by the government and the recommendations for appointing an officiating or a regular VC will be decided upon after formal approval given by the Governor office, as the Governor is the chancellor of the Punjabi University, Patiala”.
His resignation has created a flimsy situation for the authorities, as the vice chancellor submitted his resignation due to non release of grants, funds by the state government and a financial mess is created in the university.
An employee of the university , on the condition of anonymity said “ the resignation by the vice chancellor , due to financial problems, is not a good sign. It’s one of the largest university of the state. Some of the government’s wrong decision has created ruckus in the university. The government has not released the pending grants, scholarship money. Government’s decision over constituent colleges , created hole in the pocket of the university . Unnecessary hiring of the staff at lower level, extension to staff and many other decisions has worsen the situation.”
As per sources, “after the Governor accepts the resignation, the government will start the process to select the new vice chancellor.
As per sources the authorities contacted the DPI colleges Indu Malhotra IAS to take the charge of the university, but she has declined the proposal.
