Government to convert Patiala bus terminus site into residential colony

Punjab government has started the process to convert the bus terminus site on Patiala Rajpura road, near Mathura colony,into a residential colony.
“The department of town and planning has invited the objections from all, to raise any objection,if any, into the amendments mooted by the department to convert the enmarked bus stand terminus site on Patiala-Rajpura road , near Mathura colony, to a residential zone” said the DTP, Patiala Harpreet Kaur.
She further added that “ this land had been enmarked as bus stand terminus in the master plan of the town and planning department, as it was earlier with the PRTC, where an AC bus stand was proposed and in its foundation stone was laid in 2009 by the then Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in Mathura Colony on the Patiala-Rajpura road.
Recently, the ownership of the said land has been transferred to the Improvement Trust Patiala, after the trust transfer its land to the PRTC, for the new bus stand, that too on Patiala-Rajpura road, near urban estate bye pass.
The present bus stand is in four acres of land, the new bus, whose foundation stone was laid by the chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh is around 8-8.5 acres. But the site, to be converted into a residential purpose is of 11.91 acres.
As per improvement officials, “out of these 11.91 acres, Patiala Development Authority will take 2 acres of land and the trust will develop the remaining 9.91 acres of land. As the Patiala Rajpua road is a commercial road, the trust might develop the front side for commercial purpose and back side for housing, residential purpose.”
In October 2009, the PRTC handed over the project to a private construction company, which was supposed to complete the first phase of the contract in 17 months on this site. As per the agreement, the company paid an initial lease amount of Rs 13.5 crore in two installments to PRTC for 20 years and was supposed to pay another Rs 13.5 crore in the next six months.
But a local man that the land belonged to him and not the PRTC, the case goes in litigation between both parties, and the project goes in limbo.
