MRSPTU got GoI”s “One District One Green Champion” prestigious Swachhta Award

Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE) under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, in Government of India selected Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda for the prestigious Swachhta  Award under “One District One Green Champion” Award for clean green environment of the campus.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, Assistant Professor (Chemistry) and in-charge National Service Scheme (NSS) of the university, Dr. Meenu  said the MRSPTU won the Annual Swachhta prestigious Award on various parameters including best sanitation and hygiene, rain harvesting and water conservation,  solar power, energy conservation, waste management and sprawling clean green campus.  The objective of the award is to get the attention of the institutions towards the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.

Dr. Meenu said the university’s NSS wing team comprising 10 NSS officers, 50 staff members and 25 student volunteers worked very hard to achieve various parameters and bring laurels for the University by winning the prestigious award.

MRSPTU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu congratulated and felicitated the NSS team for making the university proud.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu said that cleanliness must be a habit in students and it can be developed only in educational institutions, therefore university is promoting and rewarding cleanliness and making the clean campus to green campus efforts. He emphasized that we should educate our children and society about solid waste management, energy conservation, water harvesting techniques etc. so that they can make our country more eco-friendly and clean.

Dean Academics and Campus Director of GZSCCET, Dr. Savina Bansal, MRSPTU, Registrar, Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar, Dean Research and Development, Prof. Jasbir Singh Hundal, Senior faculty members, Dr. G.S. Bath, Director, Public Relations, Harjinder Sidhu and Dean Student Welfare, Dr. Paramjeet Singh were also present on this occasion.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the Swachhata Rankings exercise under Swachhta Action Plan has been initiated by Department of Higher Education (under HRD ministry) to generate healthy peer pressure among higher educational institutions for keeping and maintaining hygienic campuses so that the environment for student learning becomes clean and leads to higher thinking.
