The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded a time bound CBI probe into the much talked about grain scam under the auspices of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. In a joint statement issued from the party headquarters here on Sunday, AAP’s senior leader and MLA Aman Arora and Youth Wing state president MLA Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said siphoned of grain worth Rs 16 to 20 crore in Pungrain godowns in Amritsar district alone, cannot be carried out by a single inspector or officer-employee; but the godown looting gang include officials as well as ruling politicians.

“Therefore, there should be a timely CBI probe into the scam under the supervision of the Honorable High Court,” said the leaders. Aman Arora said this was not the first grain scam in the state. He said crores of rupees worth of foodgrains had been embezzled so far during the Badal-BJP and the Congress governments; but with the connivance of the officials and corrupt politicians, the big defaulters escape.

Arora said the state government through its procurement agencies was storing foodgrains for the central granaries through FCI. “In this way, they bring the state into disrepute at the national level,” he added. Aman Arora said if the scam was investigated impartially then the big mafia could be exposed.

Meet Hayer said an inspector level employee cannot carry out such a big scam, therefore, it was imperative that the concerned inspectors and other employees of government warehouses as well as senior officials and their political affiliates be brought under scrutiny.

Grain Scam:

At least 8,7160 quintal wheat has gone missing from the warehouses of the Punjab Grains Procurement Corporation Limited (Pungrain) in Jandiala Guru sub-division of Amritsar district.
