Punjabi University to host SICI Golden Jubilee show

Patiala-Prof B.S. Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, has been unanimously elected as member on the Executive Council of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI), New Delhi/Calgary. The Executive Council is the supreme decision making body and plays a pivotal role in the formulation of policies and their execution to encourage and strengthen Indo-Canadian academic joint ventures through a wide range of schemes, institutional collaborations, networking and exchanges across institutions in India and Canada. The SICI has around 80 Indian member institutions besides having more than 30 Canadian intuitions of which Punjabi University, Patiala has recently been approved as one of the Indian Member Institutions.

Disclosing this, Prof Ghuman said that SICI was celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year and Punjabi University will host one of its Jubilee events at Punjabi University. Prof Ghuman has played a significant role for SICI by completing two Indo-Canadian projects titled, “Livestock and Environment Sustainability: Experience of the Indian Punjab” and “Canadian Model of Community Colleges: Lessons for Higher Education in India” funded by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

The major schemes of the SICI include, Faculty Development Programme for Vocational Education; Shastri Faculty Training and Internationalization Programme; Shastri Faculty-In-Residence Programme (FIR)/Global Initiative for Academic Network; Shastri Membership Development Grant; Shastri Mobility Programme; Shastri Programme Development Grant; Shastri Publication Grant; Shastri Research Grant; Shastri Scholar Travel Subsidy Grant; Shastri Research Student Fellowship; and Shastri Scholar Travel Subsidy Grant, Prof Ghuman said.
