Model Town BDA Enclave Phase 4-5 Cultural Club celebrated Teej with zeal and enthusiasm

Teeyan Teej Diyan – a festival to celebrate the monsoon season – was celebrated with zeal, enthusiasm and fervour at Model Town (BDA Enclave) Phase 4-5 here on Thursday. The week-long celebrations were organised by the newly formed Cultural Club of Model Town (BDA Enclave) Phase 4-5.
The children, girls and women sang folk songs and performed giddha, tappey and Punjabi boliyan during the programme. The celebration continued with gusto till late evening. The participants came dressed in traditional Punjabi outfits, colourful along with traditional Punjabi ornaments and articles like Baagh, phulkaris, pakkhies etc. A variety of stalls gave a vibrant look to the festival and participants were served delicacies and Punjabi cuisine.
The five member coordinator team of the celebrations Amarjit Kaur Sidhu, Balbir Kaur Sidhu, Ramanjit Kaur Sidhu, Sandeep Kaur Sidhu and Suman worked very hard for the successful programme. Gurpreet Kaur, head teacher of government school conducted and compeered the programme very well. Veteran women also highlighted the significance of this festival.
The residents appreciated the efforts of the Club in keeping alive the traditional culture of the state. Punjab has a rich heritage which needs to be preserved for future generations. The festival of teej is also a symbol of women empowerment and our cultural heritage. The celebration of all such festivals and functions not only provide joy, but are also a way of reviving and keeping alive the traditions and customs which were vanishing these days, they said.
