The issues of the Patwaris and Kanungos have been resolved and they will resume work in the additional Patwar Circles with immediate effect, informed Ravneet Kaur Additional Chief Secretary cum Financial Commissioner Revenue Punjab.

After various rounds of meetings of the representatives of Revenue Patwar Union with G.S.Kangar, Revenue Minister Punjab and other other Senior Officers of Revenue department from time to time regarding their demands, “a consensus has finally been achieved and the genuine demands have been met,” said she.

Giving details she divulged that currently, the Punjab Revenue Patwaris Class 3 Service Rules 1966 provide for training period of one and half year for Patwari Candidates and a probation period of 3 years for Patwaris. “It has been decided to amend the Rules to reduce the period of Training to one year and Probation period to 2 years, so that the total period of training and probation is 3 years as against the current requirement of four and a half years.” Currently, 890 Patwaris are on probation; the Department of Revenue would proactively take up this matter with Finance Department for reduction of their probation period to 2 years.

It was also decided that vacant posts of Patwaris would be filled up expeditiously for which requisition will be sent to Punjab Subordinate Service Selection Board.

Further, certain pay anomalies in various departments have arisen due to discontinuation of Senior Scale Categorization of staff subsequent to the year 1996, which have adversely effected the Revenue Patwaris as well. It was decided that a Committee would be set up by the Finance Department to look in to this issue and make its recommendations in a time bound manner.

It was pointed out that some of the Patwari Work Stations and Patwarkhanas provided to Revenue Patwaris were in urgent need of repairs and lack critical amenities. The Department of Revenue agreed to constitute Committees at District level with one representative of the Revenue Patwaris for maintenance and repairs and provision of amenities. The District Level Committees would submit their report to the Department of Revenue within a month.
