Punjab lost its noted industrialist

Noted industrialist and Chairman of the Ludhiana-based Nova group of industries Harmohinder Singh Pahwa died of a heart attack at Ludhiana. He was 77. He was Chairman of Nova Cycles, Avon Bicycle Components Pvt Ltd and VS Auto Pvt Ltd.
As per available information “he was enjoying a coffee with his coffee club members at Ludhiana’s Satluj Club on Sunday afternoon and was cracking a joke when he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately taken to Hero DMC heart centre, Ludhiana. He died there. The club members are in deep shock. They used to meet every Sunday.
Pahwa is survived by son and two daughters. He will be cremated on September 13 at Model Town Extension cremation ground.
Ludhiana is one of the largest industrial hubs in India. The major reason behind this is the ever-growing bicycle industry of Ludhiana. And when we talk about the bicycle industry, Avon Cycles can never be left out. He has worked in capacity of Director of Avon Cycles Ltd. for a period of around 40 years and has to his credit vital role in the all round growth of Avon Group.
Born in Pakistan’s Sialkot, Pahwa’s family migrated to India during the partition. They initially settled down in Patna and he studied at YPS Patiala. Later, he assisted paternal uncle Hans Raj Pahwa, founder of Avon Cycles, in Ludhiana where he worked till 2002 as Director. After establishing Nova Cycles in 2002, he went on to set up the other two companies.
Nova is the first company to introduce improved packing style of cycles as per export standards in the domestic market which is highly appreciated. In the month of March 2019 within a span of 17 Years the company has crossed sales of Two & a Half Million bicycles & the turnover has crossed 100 crore. The company has modernized its enameling & phosphating plant for better finish & durability to meet the quality standards of the trade.
He was instrumental in setting up the United Cycle Parts and Manufacturers Association (UCPMA). Three days ago, the newly elected team of UCPMA had gone to seek his blessings.
