PAHAL organized story telling session ‘Qisse Kahaniyaan’

Musafir Memorial Central State Library, Patiala in partnership with People for Arts, Heritage and Literature (Pahal) celebrated Children’s Day by organising story telling session ‘Qisse Kahaniyaan’.
Upkar Singh, DPI Colleges Punjab graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Upkar set the note for story telling by outlining the trajectory of ‘Qissa’ in Punjabi folklore, navigating the framework for young participants he talked of the dynamics between society and individual, situating conflict and tension in ‘qissa’ and its resolution in tragedy.
Quoting from numerous texts Upkar Singh etched the landscape of storytelling as an integral part of culture and that we must make space for story telling again in our lives. The story tellers Jasvir Rana, Dr Bhupinder Singh Bedi and Prof Veena regaled the audience with number of beautiful stories from dialogues exchanged between Guru Nanak and Mardana to Malki Keema, from contemporary mental health issues of young minds to travel and its relevance.
The patrons of PAHAL Prof Swaraj Raj and Shivdular Singh Dhillon talked about the relevance of collective oral tradition of stories, and the society is an initiative to root experiences in language and offer wisdom and a platform to share and interact in person.
Prof Swaraj Raj shared with the audience: Qisse Kahaniyaan are never ending, they are continuous narration of ideas, cycles of wisdom and knowledge. The tradition of storytelling binds communities together and allows impressionable minds to be filled with sense of ethical living.
