Week-Long celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Purab concluded at World University

A week-long celebrations of the prakash purab of the first Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji today concluded with great devotion and enthusiasm at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University. The celebrations had started with the inaugural of free Medical, Physiotherapy and Homeopathy camps, by Dr. Ajaib Singh Brar, Pro-Chancellor of the University. The Department of Physiotherapy also organised a blood donation camp in collaboration with NSS.

The University had set up a two-day book exhibition in which books ranging from rare religious texts to motivational works, and critical Sikh writings were displayed. Various competitions such as poster-making and slogan writing competition on the life, teachings and travels of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Declamation Contest on “Relevance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings in present times” and Solo Shabad Gayan Competition were organised. The winners were felicitated with certificates and mementos. Besides these competitions, a seminar by Dr. Gurpal Singh Sandhu, Professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh on ‘Sri Guru Nanak’s contribution to Culture’ was organised.

The celebrations concluded with the bhog of Sehaj Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Later, the staff and the students of the Department of Music recited kirtan. Dr. Parampreet Singh, Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala addressed the sangat and shared his views on the philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev ji. He emphasised on the contemporary significance of the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and encouraged the students to inculcate the principals of Guru Sahib, in their lives.

Darbara Singh Guru, Trust secretary of the University in his address appreciated that the University is dedicatedly working for the spread of the message enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji; he motivated the students to follow the philosophy of Guru Nanak specifically his concept of ik onkar, universal Brotherhood and welfare of all. He also congratulated the Vice Chancellor, the staff and the students of the University for the record breaking admissions in the University in this session.

He said that he is elated over the joining of Dr. Ajaib Singh Brar as the Pro-Chancellor of the University and is sure that the University will now rapidly stride towards the new heights of success. Dr Ajaib Singh Brar, Pro-Chancellor of the University said that the University is committed to spread the teachings of Guru Nanak among the youngsters, so that the young generation can be led to the path of righteousness and welfare of all.

Dr. Prit Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University congratulated the students and the faculty and exhorted them to seek guidance and moral strength from the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Dr. SS Billing, Dean Academic Affairs presented vote of thanks. All the events were organised under the able guidance of Dr. Preet Kaur, Dean Students’ Welfare of the University. Dr. Lakhvir Singh, Principal, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib, Head of the University Departments, faculty members and students were present on the occasion. A Street play and Painting exhibition were also organised. At the end of the celebrations, the students of the Department of Physical Education performed Gatka.
